Edwin Berry Trophy

National Swiss Teams. In 1978 Scotland ran a heat of a national Swiss Teams event, with qualifiers playing in a final in England. The Glasgow businessman Edwin Berry donated a Trophy for the heat winners. This was very popular and continued until 1998, when the English Bridge Union discontinued Scottish participation. In 1980 a Scottish National Swiss Teams was played, sponsored by Cumbernauld Development Corporation as part of its silver jubilee celebrations, and it was felt that this Trophy was more appropriate for a Scottish national event than the heat of an English one.
